A woodchip heating system provides heat, a new photovoltaic system supplies power. Both systems reduce CO₂ emissions measurably.
At the Hintersee, you can’t just ignore nature. That obliges us. We heat with wood chips from the region, source food from nearby farms, and have banned plastic bottles from the house. No big plan — just sound practice.

Single-use plastic has no place in the house. Purchasing, kitchen, and housekeeping follow one principle: as little waste as possible.
Ox beef from a Hintersee farmer, honey from the nearby forest, eggs from free-range hens — the kitchen works with what the area provides. Seasonal produce, transparent origin, no long journey from field to plate.
Wood chips from regional forestry heat the house. The new photovoltaic system also generates power on site. Together, this makes the operation much less dependent on fossil fuels.
Guests on holiday here should feel that we treat this place with care — not just talk about it.
